Sounds Big Productions, Inc. is a New York City based production and
post-production company servicing film, television, internet, and venues.
Sounds Big is family run by New York Emmy Award-winning
re-recording mixer and CEO, Andrew Kay and CCO, Cara Kay.

We use Pro Tools ULTIMATE 2024 HDX based 2.0, 5.1, 7.1, 7.1.2 & 7.1.4 (ATMOS) surround studios with the latest AI tools and integration - like Accentize DX Revive Pro & Chameleon, 11 Labs DIA Replacer, Waves Clarity Pro, Adobe DIA Enhancers & Supertone Clear. Plus, there is always Izotope RX Advanced restoration, isolation, editing and spectral tools, Waves Mercury, Dolby, several AAX plugins and a suite of many other familiar tools and new AI tools. We are versed in Avid S6, Icon, Artist Series, legacy controllers, etc. We have Dolby, Neyrinck & Waves plugin meters for all the demanding digital stereo & surround deliveries. We also have a assisted sound effects creation with Krotos and Reformer as well as a SFX server with years of foley, FX and beds and field recording equipment for those hard to get sounds. We are well versed (1000+ shows) in the 12 & 16 channel Discovery/A&E/Eetc. specs for current digital portal deliveries as well as Disney+/Hulu, Amazon, Netflix, Facebook, Nat Geo, A&E/History, Sundance Channel, Scripps, ABC/Disney, Travel Channel, NBC, etc. deliveries.

Our chief re-recording mixer & engineer is Andrew Kay. Andrew is a New York Emmy awarded re-recording mixer with a strong track record of mixing one-off specials, season television runs, films, trailers, documentaries, and award winning sound and music design. Andrew works very quickly and efficiently. He has been known to mix, screen and deliver half hour reality shows in 6 - 8 hours and 1 hour reality shows in 10 - 12 hours, i.e. In addition to servicing a variety of our own clients with reviews at several convenient locations in NYC, we also cater to clients directly by reviewing mixes in-house at the production company.

* We have delivered mixes for History/A&E, Disney +, Netflix, Amazon, Facebook.tv, Sony Crackle, etc. For television and net delivery, Andrew has worked on selections like Married Young on Amazon, Moonshiners and Diesel Brothers for Discovery Channel, Real Housewives of New Jersey for Bravo, Adam Eats the 80s and Engineering that Built the World and American Restoration for History Channel, to name a few.

He has also written several television opens and musical pieces for Disney's animation festivals.
He specializes in 5.1, 7.1 and ATMOS mixing for feature film, television, documentary, specials, stage, & installations.

Significant Industry Sound Editing Contributions:

• Helped launch "Ricky Bobby’s" career in Talladega Nights by composing the

"SPEED News" theme and designing the leader-board animation’s sound.

• Collaborated with Molly Shannon to help craft and sing The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow

as the monster in the movie Igor during ADR and singing sessions.

• Composed the music and the soundtrack for Disney’s Millennium Animation Festival animations,

along with the documentary film that accompanied it.

• Won New York Emmy Awards for your audio/sound editing work on documentaries like

The Concert for New York, The Diamond at the Rock: The Rise of the Rockettes, and The Mecca of Boxing.

• Supervised sound editing and mixing for Champions Again,

a documentary film about the 2007 World Series.

• Made Molly Ringwald sound like a poor singer (despite her real-life talent!) for her role in

Montauk, a feature about The Southampton treasure folklore.

• Foley recordist and mixer on feature The Good Dick

• Reproduced Purcell’s The Cold Song music for the indie film Let 'Em Soak.

• Recorded Mario Cantone and edited all his ADR back into the film mix in order to

re-voice the main antagonist cartoon character in the feature film movie Married Young.

• Completed ADR mixes/records, foley mixes/records, music compositions/records/edits,

sound edits, DIA edits, atmosphere edits, dubs, loops for features for over 28 years in the industry.

• Held feature roles as Sound Supervisor and Supervising Sound Editor for several films.

For feature film and documentary work, Sounds BIG provides Andrew as not only the re-recording mixer, but also as the supervising sound editor or sound supervisor. We service and advise your film from pre-production so that it sounds right in the DI theatre as you wrap post-production. We will help guide your entire process from the beginning so that the final mixed soundtrack is excellent! Delivery is quick & securely customized for each client.

For Indy 5.1 delivery, in addition to stem delivery, if needed, we also take the mix delivery and post process further by finalizing your color corrected HD, 2K, or 4K picture onto 4K Blu-ray/Blu-ray with encoded (Dolby, DTS, whatever) 5.1. Atmos & 2.0 tracks of your final mix. This ensures that speakers are configured correctly and that items are synced and normalized correctly for festival deliveries, screenings, distribution, and that clients have a "final-product-in-hand" feeling after finalizing a surround mix. Doing this also addresses and solves any issues of pull-up and/or pull-down needed for syncing and resolving drift in 23.98 and true 24p edits and mixes.

Sounds BIG also has a production element for film, television, ventures, special projects, and collaborations. We have great relationships and successes with a core group of the industry's top DPs, editors, graphic artists, talents, entertainment/contract lawyers, and directors which allows us to also executively produce and pursue collaborative television shows, shorts, special features, events, and documentaries.

Cara Kay is our Chief Creative Officer and Senior Producer. Cara completed a New York City location based and hosted television project about short films called Short Sighted. Cara conceived Short Sighted and played her role as casting director, writer, coordinating producer, and locations manager/NYC paperwork mastermind.

Cara and Andrew both visited Park City, Utah for the Sundance Film Festival with A-Passes. They observed many winning films, furthering their understanding of the sonorities and nuances used in today's film mix. Having A-Passes and opening Gala/Catalyst access, they also gained great insight about the current state of the AI, AR & VR industries & technologies as well as met with the top film makers and investors in the industry. For example, Eckles is a Dolby ATMOS theatre and can take an ATMOS delivery. Also, note that Sundance has very specific needs for choosing film shorts for their programming. Please inquire for specific inside information. Andrew Kay has produced award winning film mixes for both union and non-union projects with wins at Sundance, Tribeca Film Festival, etc.
